PETER GOLDING

"SPYKE"

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Spyke after a short illness, aged 61.

This wonderful, larger than life character will be sadly missed by all those who knew him and he will be a tragic loss to CAMRA nationally and to Nottingham branch particularly. Branch chairman for the past few years, having originally held the post in the early days of CAMRA, he returned to the role once he retired from teaching. As many of you may know, he has been the editor of Nottingham Drinker during its recent successful period of winning the CAMRA award for three consecutive years.

The funeral is arranged for Wilford Hill, Nottingham, 12 noon on Friday 5th November, highly appropriate for those that have known Spyke for years! He discussed some requirements a few days before his condition deteriorated, one of which was that everyone was to attend in bright colours, no black. He also did not want any tears though I doubt many will comply with that!

He insisted on us then having a good drink (though he did not use those exact words) and thanks to Chris Holmes we will then make to the Canal House, Canal Street where beers from some micro breweries will be available.

Please, no flowers, Spyke always thought them a waste, but we will collect donations for Cancer Research.

2010 Nottingham Beer Festival

This year's Nottingham Robin Hood Beer Festival set in the superb grounds of Nottingham Castle once again proved an outstanding success with 20% more beer and cider sold than last year. Despite rumours to the contrary we did not run out of beer and customers were able to select from a range of ales right up to closing time on the Saturday evening.

We started the beer festival with a world record 809 different cask beers, although because we brought in extra supplies on Friday evening this number was eventually bettered, look in the next Nottingham Drinker for the final tally!

Many thanks to the 21,000 customers who attended, we hope you enjoyed the event.

We are always pleased to receive any feedback, so if you want to let us know your thoughts please click on this form.
